Biography of Gabriel Blasberg - Clarinetist

Gabriel Blasberg was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Coming from a family of musicians, he began his career at the age of nine when he joined the Teatro Colón Children's Choir and started studying music at home.

Education and Advanced Training

He studied at the "Carlos López Buchardo" National Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1989 as a Higher Professor of Music specializing in Clarinet under Maestro Mariano Frogioni, achieving the best average of his class. He completed his training with Maestro Luis Rossi and various advanced courses and masterclasses.

He received scholarships from the Antorchas Foundation and the Bariloche Music Camp, taking musical interpretation courses with the Ensemble Modern (Germany), Maestros Nicolás Chumachenco (Poland), Alberto Lysy, and the Mozarteum Argentino Wind Quintet, among other teachers, in addition to musical analysis and music history.

Orchestral Career and Principal Clarinet

At the age of fourteen, he won a competition to join his first salaried symphony orchestra, the Argentine Catholic University Symphony Orchestra. He later became a member of many others, such as the Latin American Youth Music Orchestra (Uruguay 1985 and Colombia 1990), the National Radio Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra (as a contracted musician).

In 1991, he participated in the National Symphony Orchestra's first tour of Spain and was invited to play as principal clarinetist in the CIDESIN Symphonic Band of San José, Costa Rica. In 1989, he joined the Buenos Aires City Symphonic Band through competition, where he has held the position of Principal Clarinet since 2016.

Solo and Chamber Music Performance

As a soloist, he has performed in important halls in Buenos Aires (Centro Cultural Kirchner, Usina del Arte, Salón Dorado del Teatro Colón, etc.) and throughout the country, as well as on live radio and television programs. As a chamber musician, he has developed extensive activity in various instrumental combinations, also premiering numerous works by contemporary Argentine composers.
 

In recent years, he has performed as a soloist with the National Congress Chamber Orchestra, the Buenos Aires City Symphonic Band, the Mar del Plata Municipal Symphonic Band, the Vientos del Sur Symphonic Band, the Buenos Aires Province Clarinet Ensemble, the San Martín Municipal Band, the Pilar Municipal Symphony Orchestra, and the San Isidro Symphony Orchestra.
 

In 2025, he performed the world premiere of "Desde el Malecón," a Central American Suite for solo clarinet and symphonic band by Argentine composer Esteban D'Antona, a work dedicated to him.
 

He was awarded in musical competitions, such as the Coca-Cola Contest in Science and Arts (1988), the V Mayo Bank Foundation Argentine Music Contest (1989), and the III Buenos Aires International Music Contest (1999), the latter in the Chamber Music category.

Pedagogy, Publications, and Media

For more than thirty years, he has dedicated himself to teaching, giving clarinet lessons, ear training, musical language, and group courses in chamber music and musical interpretation to musicians of all instruments.
 

In recent years, he has given group classes via the Internet and offered talks under the titles "Musical Interpretation for Clarinetists", "How to Prepare a Musical Interpretation Accompanied by a Track", and "How to Optimize Clarinet Study". He has also been invited to various programs on Radio Nacional Clásica and Internet sites for interviews and talks on music.
 

Between 2001 and 2014, he created and edited the classical music email newsletter Claves Musicales, which received the declaration of "Cultural Interest" from the Ministries of Culture of the Argentine Nation and the City of Buenos Aires.

In the field of popular music, he was a member of the group Vai Passar, dedicated to Brazilian music, recording an album sponsored by INAMU (National Music Institute).

Official Representation and Affiliations

He currently serves as the Argentina Country Chair for the International Clarinet Association and is part of the Clariperu Latinoamérica cultural association team.
