Finished in 1971, Carlos Guastavino's Sonata for Clarinet and Piano is one of the most important and representative works of the Argentine chamber repertoire. Faithful to the unmistakable style of the maestro from Santa Fe, the piece steers clear of the avant-garde trends of its time to embrace a deeply tonal language of nostalgic and refined lyricism. Throughout its three movements, the work offers a dialogue of equals between both instruments, where the warmth and cantabile expressiveness of the clarinet masterfully intertwine with the rich textures and demands of the piano.
